Jakarta Hopes To Conclude Indonesia-Vietnam EEZ Negotiations

Jakarta (Antara Megapolitan-Bogort) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hamburg, Germany, expressed hope that negotiations on the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of both countries would be concluded soon.

President Jokowi, on the sidelines of G20 Summit in Germany, Saturday,  met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at Hamburg Messe Und Congress, according to the Press Bureau Chief, Media and Information Affairs of the Presidential Secretariat, Bey Machmudin, in a press statement received here on Sunday.

In the meeting, President Jokowi hoped that the delimitation of the region and ZEE negotiations between Indonesia and Vietnam will be resolved soon.

The matter is a very important thing to prevent the recurrence of incidents related to marine waters, as happened in May 2017.

"We support the eradication of trans-boundary (crimes), including IUU Fishing. I push for a provisional arrangement for overlapping claims in the region, made in accordance with the UNCLOS in 1982," said President Jokowi.

Another maritime related issue is the widespread violation of IUU Fishing in Indonesian waters.

"It has been too many losses to be borne by Indonesia for the IUU fishing crimes. Indonesia expects Vietnam cooperation to combat IUU fishing," said the President.

Another thing that President Jokowi delivered is that 2017 is an important year for Vietnam's leadership in APEC.

"I extend Indonesia's full support for Vietnam's chairmanship in APEC. I Thank (Vietnam) for the invitation to me to attend the November 2017 APEC Summit," said President Jokowi.

President Jokowi in the meeting, was accompanied by among others, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chief Thomas Lembong, Indonesian Ambassador to Jermany Fauzi Bowo and Presidential Special Staff Ari Dwipayana.

Jokowi ended his working visit to Germany after attending the G20 summit which was closed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday.

The President accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo and his entourage took off for Jakarta via International Airport Helmut-Schmidt Hamburg, Germany, at 19:09 local time or 0:09 pm Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).

Besides, Jokowi, all heads of state and government who attended the G20 summit also left the City of Hamburg to return to their respective countries.

Indonesian Presidential Aircraft-1 will stop in Abu Dhabi International Airport, United Arab Emirates, for refueling.

According to the schedule, the President and his entourage will arrive in the country on Sunday afternoon.

Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Fauzi Bowo bid farewell to  the President and First Lady who left for Indonesia.

The President during the flight to Jakarta was accompanied by a number of officials.

They included Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Acting Head of the Presidential Secretariat Winata Supriatna, The President's Military Secretary Rear Marshal Trisno Hendradi and Presidential Guards Commander Major General Suhartono.

Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs of the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andri Hadi, the President's Private Secretary Anggit Noegroho, Presidential Special Staff Ari Dwipayana and Acting Deputy for Protocol, Press, Media and Information Affairs of the Presidential Secretariat Ari Setiawan aslo accompanied President Jokowi during his return flight.
