Bandung, W Java (Antara Megapolitan) - A total of 66 new records have been created since the 19th National Sports Week (PON) kicked off on September 17.

These included 55 PON records, 15 national records and one Asian record, an official said.

"So far, 66 records have been created at the 19th PON," the PON match division chairman, Yudha M Saputra, stated here on Tuesday.

Yudha said of the 55 PON records, 29 were in swimming, seven records in weightlifting, five records in diving, three records in weightlifting and six records in athletics.

"Of the 15 national records, eight were in swimming, three in weightlifting and four in athletics. One official record was created in diving," the official noted.

Yudha expressed optimism that the ongoing PON will witness more records tumbling as there is still one more day before the largest national games event comes to an end on September 29.

In the meantime, deputy spokesman of the 19th National Sports Week (PON) 2016 in West Java, Ruddy Gandakusumah, observed that till Tuesday (Sept 27), the West Java's contingent had bagged 24 percent of the total medals in the largest national sports games.

"Our medal tally had 24 to 25 percent of the total medals by Tuesday," Ruddy pointed out.

The West Java's team has grabbed 450 medals --- 187 gold, 131 silver and 132 bronze medals. (Ant).
