Nunukan, N Kalimantan (Antara Megapolitan-Bogor) - The Indonesian and Malaysian governments have agreed to build two cross-border checkpoints in the Indonesian district of Nunukan bordering Malaysia.
The two countries reached the agreement at the 22nd technical meeting on social and economic issues between the two countries (Sosek Malindo) held in the East Java city of Surabaya on Nov 8-10.
The two cross-border checkpoints will be built in the Indonesian sub-district of Krayan bordering the Malaysian state of Serawak, secretary of Sosek Malindo for Nunukan District Muhammad Efendi stated on Thursday.
The two countries will also build another cross-border checkpoint in Labang Village, Lumbis Ogong Sub-district, bordering the Malaysian state of Sabah, he noted.
A port will also be built in the village starting 2019, Efendi remarked.
Both nations will also build a joint office next to a border monument at the village after the construction of the port has been completed, he pointed out.
"The joint office will have several rooms for security guards, immigration, and animal quarantine," he stated.
The Malaysian government has started the construction of cross-border checkpoints in the two border areas, he noted.
The National Border Management Board will build the two cross-border checkpoints using funds from the state budget, Efendi added. (ANT)/BPJ).
