In various mass media, both printed and online, and in discussions carried out both by various circles of national issues observers, there is a controversial issue especially among the youth related to the existence of Hizbut-Tahrir Indonesia or better known as HTI that considers the Caliphate system as the only system that must be applied on earth and under one command.
As an outsider, we see that HTI (Hizbut-Tahrir Indonesia) wants to establish the Islamic Empire that onceexisted in the Andalusia or Spain for about 200 years, which was named as the glory days of Islam.
But since the fall of the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century by Kemal Attaturk, HTI assumes that there is no longer any Islamic government in the world. HTI as a branch of Hizbut-Tahrir International manages to attract the attention of third world countries such as Indonesia and some other countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, and so forth.
Speaking of radical organizations in Indonesia, there is no way we can talk about ISIS (for ISIS is not an official organization in Indonesia). Therefore, we take one example that we can call official "organization" in Indonesia, namely Hizbut-Tahrir Indonesia. HTI is an organization which is very outspoken and the only group that is allowed by government to spread Caliphate idea in Indonesia. The existence of HTI is questioned by some people, why this radical group can freely propagate "Khaliah ideology". The last one in May-June 2012 whenthey held a grand event in GBK and 35 the other main cities.
I believe, HTI's ideology is unclear and untargeted. Why?. First, who will be appointed as the representative and thecaliph in Caliphate? That alone is not answered clearly. Who will be deemed to represent and become emperor or king of Islam? Again, none of the members and leaders of HTI was able to answer.
HTI is only able to criticize Indonesian government and any government in the world. Second, where is the center power of Caliphate? Is it going to be determined just like the displacement of the heart of sultanate government in Damascus, Baghdad, and Istanbul - Islampool or Islamic City? Is there any country willing to be a headquarter and eliminate their nation-state to become an Islamic theocratic country? HTI cannot answer.
Third, the understanding of Caliphate itself caused controversy because there is no order at all in establishing a sovereign Islamiyah in the form of Islamic government. Fourth, HTI that does not trust Indonesian government, clearly undermines Indonesia, however, they still eat, stay and live in Indonesia. The political agenda on behalf of Caliphate is in fact very absurd. Emergency situation caused by the non-Caliphruler is just a justification to cover unilateral desire of political power.
Last, HTI forgets that the Caliphate and even the four original caliphs were unable to protect the family of the Prophet Muhammad after the death of Rasulullah. From five analysis above we can say that HTI campaigns about Sharia and Caliphate is just an attempt to undermine Indonesia and their ultimate goal is power.
Meanwhile, according to Makmun Rashid, author of "HTI, Failed to Understand Caliphate", no theorem in Quran requires people to establish an Islamic state, HTI is also not a party that is formed due to the disruption of thinking and acting. Meanwhile, according to Ust. Sofiuddin (a lecturer at STKQuran Depok), HTI is doing tabayyun, it just portrays Indonesia at a glance as a provocative material, but does not give a solution. Similarly, according to Ust. Rusli Sainun (Chairman of Muslim Family Bogor), the Caliphate system cannot stop the Indonesian nation-state system that has been built by the founders of the nation.
Mass organizations such as HTI is obviouslyagainst the principles that contained in the Pancasila as Indonesian foundation. This organization does not uphold peace and tolerance. On the contrary, they support the provocation to split the people as if they want to move the conflict in the Middle East to Indonesia. Moreover, this radical mass organization certainly also does regeneration radically.
Quoting the NU chairman, Said Aqil Siradj, permitting radicalism would fertilize the terrorist movement, thus the seeds of terrorism must be eradicated early and indiscriminately.
However, underneath all these, the dangerous thing is that what has been done by HTI tends to create religious radicalization and beliefs that create segregation in the Republic of Indonesia, which is based on Pancasila that is not recognized by HTI. It is a real concern that such organizationis allowed to campaign and even create Caliphate Conference.
These raise a big question, what is the actual position of thegovernmentin addressing radicalization with HTI models by deliberately allowing them to go ahead and develop?. Therefore, as people, we must be aware of these movements that are against the basic state ideology and split people. The government is also requested to firmly take a stand against mass organizations that act intolerant and contrary to the spirit of national unity and diversity.
