Jakarta (Antara Megapolitan) - Indonesian diaspora in Australia held "Indonesian Diaspora Night" which aims to expand cooperation network of cooperation, explore opportunities, as well as improve common welfare together among the Indonesians in the country.

A press release from the Indonesian Consulate in Sydney received by Antara here on Tuesday mentioned the event was held in Sydney on Sunday night (Oct 30) and participate in by at least 400 Indonesian diaspora in Australia.

"I am very proud because, not only that the Indonesian cultures are displayed through a fashion show and a cultural performance, but also I am proud to see the magnitude of our love for Indonesia,"  Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Najib Riphat Kesoema said.

The Indonesian Diaspora Night shows the cultural diversity of Indonesia in various forms, including Ulos, the traditional clothing of North Sumatra and traditional dresses of East Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua.

In addition, there is also a dance performance of Yapong from Betawi, Panen of Minang and a traditional dance from Alor, East Nusa Tenggara.

The ambassador added, although most of the Indonesian diaspora have become Australian citizens or have status of permanent resident, the love of the homeland is still growing and strong.

"I hope such event will grow and strengthen the sense of brotherhood among the Indonesian diaspora in overseas," the Ambassador said.

Ambassador Najib also hoped that Indonesian language as an important element in strengthening such sense will be always taught to the younger generation of Indonesian diaspora so that in the future it will become a sturdy bridge in building cooperation between Indonesia and Australia.

Indonesian Diaspora Night is the first time organized by the Indonesian Diaspora Network of Australia since it has been established on July 2013.  (Ant).
