Tanjung Benoa, Bali, (Antara Megapolitan) - The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia and its Directorate of Research and Community Department are organizing an international symposium for materials science researchers in Tanjung Benoa, Bali, on July 26-27, 2016.

"I hope the symposium will help to evoke new ideas that can be developed and used to solve problems faced by the people," Rector of the University of Indonesia Muhammad Anis stated here on Tuesday.

The international symposium is titled "Exploring the Current Progress in Novel and Functional Materials for Energy, Environmental and Health Applications."

Anis said the international symposium brings together researchers and experts in the field of functional materials from Asia, Europe, and America.

Anis remarked that the participants will discuss the development of functional materials that are used for their certain properties and functions in the fields of alternative energy, environment preservation, electronic devices, and healthcare.

As a developing country, Anis said Indonesia still needs to bring about significant improvements in the research of functional materials, so it can contribute to national development.

The first day of the symposium featured scientific presentations by Indonesian and foreign researchers.

In addition, several experts on functional materials will deliver lectures on topics: polymers, ceramics, composites, nano and 2D materials, metals, organometals, and coordination chemistry, biomaterials, modeling, and computation.

"This event is also expected to serve as an effective forum to enhance cooperation between Indonesian researchers and their counterparts from other countries, with the industrial society as an end user of the functional materials.(KR-LWA/INE/B003)
