Bogor (Antaranews Bogor) - The people of small islands in the North Maluku province are in need of empowerment through creative economic activities, for their welfare, according to Muhammad M Banapon, a political activist from the province.

"The programs of the ministries and institutions in terms of funding for a wider coverage should have been directed to the welfare of people on the small islands across the country," stated Banapon, better known as Ama, here on Monday.

Ama, a prospective member of Regional Representative Council (DPD), is determined to improve the welfare of the people on small islands in North Maluku if he is elected as a "senator" in Senayan in the 2014 legislative election.

As part of his contribution to empower the people in the province, Ama has, since October, conducted several empowerment-related activities with related ministries and academic circles.

"We hope such activities become the focus of attention for these ministries, institutions, and non-government organizations in order to help empower the people of small islands in the country through creative economic programs," he noted.

Ama added that his vision and mission in his effort to become a member of DPD are to ensure access of education, health, economy, information and judicial justice.
