Jakarta (Antaranews Megapolitan) - The Indonesian rupiah fell 75 points to Rp15,139 per dollar in the Jakarta inter-bank spot market on Thursday morning based on the improving US manpower data, an economist stated.

"The US dollar strengthens against several major global currencies, including the rupiah, along with the improving US manpower data," Ahmad Mikail, a Samuel Sekuritas economist, stated here on Thursday.

The number of US workers employed in the private sector rose 230 thousand in September, higher than 168 thousand recorded in August, he remarked.

"The figure is also higher than 185 thousand as expected by economists. It is also the highest since last February," he stated.

The global crude price, which returned to US$76 per barrel, will likely add to pressure on the rupiah, he pointed out.

CSA Research Institute senior analyst Reza Priyambada stated that the increase in crude price may have an impact on the current account deficit to increase.

"External sentiments influence domestic market players' investment policy. Hopefully, the government would issue a new policy to stabilize the rupiah's exchange rate, so it will not experience higher pressure," he added.
